Bastille Cats

Clowder Press,  a bit en retard, celebrates Bastille Day, France’s Fete Nationale and  jour de gloire.  It’s to commemorate the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a medieval royal fortress and prison in Paris. Despite housing only seven actual prisoners, and being in such a state of disrepair that it was about to be demolished,  it stood as  a symbol of the oppressive grip of absolute monarchy. The Storming didn’t start the French Revolution, but  it became its iconic flashpoint. After four hours of fighting, the Bastille was taken. Ninety four people were killed.

The revolution was the result of financial, political and societal problems, all mishandled by a despotic monarchy, and coalesced into an official movement on May 5 1789,  eventually transforming France into a modern republic. and changing the face of Europe.

Were there any cats involved?

There is no record, but surely there were .Cats can be ruthless Agents of Chaos when the mood takes them, and very effective  in close combat. So celebrate with the Clowder Press the possibility of such feline contribution to the history of the modern Europe. Allons chatons!
