How does Parafeline work?

You won’t find the word parafeline in the dictionary yet, but Belvedere and I feel it is only a matter of time. That is because it is a word that we coined as part of our brand strategy for the Clowder Press.

Although it is a new word, it was created  following strict guidelines. Belvedere is very rules-based. It is a hybrid, yoking a Greek prefix (para, meaning alongside or beyond) and a Latin root, feline, from felus, cat.  Like television, liposuction, and metadata.

It took us quite a few power naps to get there; we workshopped the idea of paramedics and paralegals, looking for something that would encapsulate the USP of the Clowder reference list: popular reference, but with cats as educators. Paramedics work alongside doctors, paralegals work alongside lawyers, and so parafelines  are cats that work  alongside you, offering a painless and soothingly cat-enabled way to learn about towering geniuses and gamechangers.

Want an example? Let’s take the Most Famous Cat in Science,.

We give you Schrödinger’s Cat, who wasn’t even real, yet has nevertheless outmemed their creator. The nameless mog was a thought experiment, suggested by theoretical physicist Erwin Schrödinger to explain superposition. Now, everybody knows Schrödinger’s name, even those of us for whom quantum mechanics is a firmly closed box.

And why is this?

Because of the cat.

Most of us wouldn’t know where to begin with theoretical physics - but throw a cat into the equation, and we are instantly engaged and interested.

That’s the Clowder Parafeline angle.
