You will of course find the word essential in your dictionary of choice, so I need not explain. The Clowder Press comprises two lists: Clowder Essential runs alongside Clowder Parafeline but keeps slightly aloof, in a very catlike manner. Parafeline is about cats as educators, helping us to learn about ourselves; Essential, as  explained on the Clowder Press  website, is all about the cat, helping us to learn about them.

We are not talking breeds or training here, the Essential titles apply to all cats. This is the essence of cats distilled - what they know, their philosophy, lifestyle, skills and habits, how they function physically and mentally, and the rules they live by.

And as Roger points out, this list is effectively a public service to humans who think they own cats. It’s a crib sheet for you, their butlers. Think of it as a set of manuals or guide books explaining how your boss works - the Seven Effective Habits etc. It’s always good to know how the boss is thinking and what they might do and how you can best ingratiate yourself with them or aspire to learn from their example.  Being more like them will surely improve your existence.
