Clowder Clowder

Belvedere tells me that there is still some confusion over the name Clowder Press. This is rather surprising, considering that feline domination is almost complete, certainly in the digiverse. You’d think people would know by now. However they can be forgiven, as other enterprises, which have no feline input whatsoever, are calling themselves Clowder. It can get confusing.

Allow me to allow Roger to explain.

“A clowder is a bunch of cats, not necessarily related. One cat is a Supreme Ruler, two cats are a power couple, and three cats are a clowder. In fact, any number above three counts as a clowder.

It probably comes from the Old English word “clodder” which means clotted mess, or to mass together, coagulate. Etymologists can’t agree, but then they rarely do. It was first used in its modern meaning in the late 18th century. And you say it to rhyme with ‘powder’. ”

So that is why the name Clowder was chosen for the Clowder Press, which is an enterprise dedicated entirely to the cat.

Did you know what it meant before Roger explained?

Let us know.
